چکیده

This paper describes the development of a legged mobile robot. Legged locomotion has several advantages over wheels. The major advantage is the ability to traverse varied surfaces. However, legs must carry the full weight of the robot and this places great demands on the leg actuators, requiring a light robot structure. In most cases, the actuators contribute a large proportion of the weight, and usually at least two are required per leg. This project aims to reduce weight by using only one actuator per leg. Another aim is to improve walking performance on rough ground. Roboroach is a six legged insect robot, suited to traversing uneven terrain and having potential biomedical applications, with emphasis on areas such as environmental monitoring and search and rescue. The robot's legs each employ a single servo actuator and rotate a full 360°. This creates a novel walking style, which can negotiate large obstacles. The legs are compliant, which makes locomotion smoother, and gives passive adaptability to uneven surfaces. It is fitted with obstacle and tilt detection, and autonomously integrates these behaviours with walking and turning.

Using the Adaptive Frequency Nonlinear Oscillator for Earning an Energy Efficient Motion Pattern in a Leg- Like Stretchable Pendulum by Exploiting the Resonant Mode

In this paper we investigate a biological framework to generate and adapt a motion pattern so that can be energy efficient. In fact, the motion pattern in legged animals and human emerges among interaction between a central pattern generator neural network called CPG and the musculoskeletal system. Here, we model this neuro - musculoskeletal system by means of a leg - like mechanical system cal...

Mobility of Legged Robot Locomotion with Elastically-suspended Loads over Rough Terrain

Elastically-suspended loads can reduce the energetic cost of legged robot locomotion over flat ground. In this paper, we studied the effect of elastically-suspended loads on the mobility of legged robot locomotion over rough terrain. The power input and speed of a simple hexapod robot running over rough terrain with an elastically-suspended load and a rigidly-attached load was compared. On aver...

On the use of Hybrid Control for Legged Locomotion

In this paper, we develop a hybrid control approach for legged locomotion. We motivate the development of the control architecture using the results of a series of walking, running and obstacle climbing experiments conducted using a six legged robot called HEX. Our initial simulation results indicate the potential stability of the control approach, and our future analytical work should provide ...

Towards High-Fidelity On-Board Attitude Estimation for Legged Locomotion via a Hybrid Range and Inertial Approach

Legged robots display a characteristically periodic motion. Measuring and tracking this motion has traditionally been performed using general inertial measurement techniques. While widely applied in robotics, this approach is limited in dynamic legged locomotion due to the excessive accumulation of drift from severe impact shocks (nearly 9g in single leg experiments). This paper introduces the ...

Locomotor sub-functions for design and control of locomotion

In this study we focus on bio-inspired legged locomotion concepts. A primary goal of comparative biomechanics is to understand the fundamental physics of locomotion within an evolutionary context. Such an understanding of legged locmotion results in a transition from copying nature to borrowing strategies for interacting with the physical world in design and control of bio-inspired legged robot...
